Eyebrow Shaping Tips

The eyebrows are considerably some of the most important aesthetic hairs in the body. If there are no eyebrows, the face would look dull and imperfect and the forehead would seem very wide. That is why women have taken advantage of their eyebrows to make it a part of the beautification system on their faces and bodies. In order to always keep the eyebrows presentable, it is a must to groom them.

Eyebrow Grooming: The Basics

The eyebrows need to be very precisely shaped and groomed in order for them to look their best. There are several ways on how to groom the eyebrows.

  1. Brushing – this method is used to keep the direction of growth of the hair properly aligned to one direction. Sometimes, hair can grow in all directions, and by brushing, you are allowing your eyebrow hairs to follow the strokes of the brush. Most eyebrow pencils have their eyebrow brushes on the caps but there are also eyebrow brushes that can be bought on their own.
  2. Drawing – this process involves the use of an eyebrow pencil. This is usually done to thicken eyebrows which are thin or balding. Depending on the hair color, the eyebrow pencil used can come in different shades.
  3. Plucking/Tweezing – if the hair is too thick and if there are too many hairs in all directions, plucking may be required. This is quite painful but it’s very effective because it reduces the growth of unwanted hair for quite a while.
  4. Waxing – for those who want quick fixes, waxing may be done to make the hair removal process faster. This is much like underarm waxing, but you need to be very precise because if you remove too many hairs, the eyebrows would look bald.

Shaping the Eyebrows

Eyebrow shaping is a very important method of beautification. Professional beauticians and makeup artists never forget to shape the eyebrows of anyone that they attend to. This is because the shape of the eyebrows is never perfect, and to perfect it, it needs to be shaped artificially. The materials used in shaping the brows are similar to those used in grooming them, but the process is a more particular one.

How to Shape the Eyebrows

  1. Look at your brows closely and identify what exactly you want to change or correct about it. If there are extra hairs spurting at the edges of the brows, these may need tweezing. If the brows are too thick, a little trim would do the job.
  2. Before doing anything to your brows, brush it first. If there are hairs that really won’t follow the direction of your brushing movement, pluck them. These stubborn hairs will do you no good in the future.
  3. Assess the shape of your face. For round faces, it’s best to keep the brows curvy and arched to elongate the facial appearance. For oval faces, a slightly flatter brow shape should be applied. For square faces, place an accent on the roundness of the eyes to allow it to take over the square appearance of the face.
  4. Once decided on what shape of eyebrows you would like to have, start shaping by plucking or waxing the excess hairs. Make sure that you remove hairs to follow the shape that you want for your brows. Don’t overdo it because your brows would look bald
  5. After shaping, draw a thin line over the brows to make them look thicker and darker.
  6. Add some style to it by brushing and you can also draw out of the hairs to create the exact shape that you want. This will allow you to make an artificial eyebrow without looking too fake.
